The Muse
A painting was at one point nothing but fabric waiting to be painted on.
So why should a painting not be abled to return to this state?
Through this project I experimented with extreme contrasts within material, volume and structure.
By carefully dissecting a thrifted artwork and strategically cracking the paint just enough to allow enough flexibility, a corset came to life. Paired with wood-brown bands and golden details, the image of a framed painting remains.
The dress is made from crepe georgette curtains and compliments the stiff corset with its draped volume. Together, these materials benefit from their opposing characteristics to create a modern, yet antique-feeling statement.
